New Hat Safety Regulations:

You may have heard that the popular BSEN 1384 riding hat standard has been withdrawn by the governing body in charge of standard regulation.
The use of riding hats which only have the standards: EN 1384 or BSEN 1384, will no longer be accepted for competition.

Hats must have one of the following safety specification standards to make it compliant:
• PAS 015 (1998 or 2011);
• ASTMF 1163 (2004a or 04a onwards);
• SNELL E2001;
• AS/NZS 3838 (2006 onwards).

The onus so far has been on the rider to make sure they have the correct riding hat for the competition but DI has made the decision to lead the way & have a duty of care for their competitors.
So DI will be enforcing this new regulation by tagging hats with a label to allow easy identification of compliant hats, these labels will be sent out to each region & hat tagging will take place at regional & national competitions.
Once DI Northern Region receive these labels we will be able to tag hats, so can competitors who do not have their hats tagged please make sure they give themselves enough time to get them tagged at their next DI competition before they warm up their horses prior to competition.
Please note, you will not be allowed to ride anywhere at that event if your hat has not been tagged, and hats which do not comply to an accepted standard will not be tagged under any circumstances.
We at DI Northern Region will notify our members via our website & Facebook page when we have received the tags & they will be immediately available at the next event for hat tagging.
Hats that have been tagged compliant to the new standard by EI, Pony Club UK & British Riding Club’s do not need to be tagged again.
